*Amaravati* – The Andhra Pradesh government is working on a new liquor policy aimed at offering quality liquor at lower prices. The first meeting of the ministerial sub-committee responsible for formulating the new policy was held today, with five key ministers—Kollu Ravindra, Nadendla Manohar, Kondapalli Srinivas, Satyakumar Yadav, and Gottipati Ravi—participating in the discussions. The committee reviewed the existing liquor policy and began its exercise to develop a more people-centric approach.During the meeting, the sub-committee studied liquor policies from various states, focusing on how liquor shops, bars, and beverage companies are regulated. Reports from officials who had visited different states to study their models were also reviewed. The ministers are considering feedback from different communities to ensure that the new policy addresses public concerns. The current liquor policy is set to expire at the end of this month.Speaking after the meeting, Minister Kollu Ravindra criticized the previous government’s liquor policy, accusing it of prioritizing revenue generation over public welfare. He claimed that the earlier policy had negatively impacted both the state’s finances and public health. As part of the new approach, the government aims to introduce a policy by October that will offer quality liquor at more affordable prices, while ensuring better health outcomes for the people of Andhra Pradesh.The sub-committee is studying liquor policies from six states to draw lessons and create a balanced and effective new policy.
