Dengue Outbreak Worsens in Telangana Amid Heavy Rains

*Hyderabad, August 25, 2024*Telangana is grappling with a significant increase in dengue cases, exacerbated by heavy rains and widespread mosquito breeding. The surge in cases is evident across both urban and rural areas, with reports indicating that at least one or two people in every household are affected. As of yesterday, over 5,500 dengue cases have been reported statewide, with more than 100 cases in Hyderabad alone. However, doctors are concerned that these figures may be underreported, with many cases potentially being registered multiple times. This discrepancy highlights the severity of the situation, as it appears that nearly every household is experiencing at least one dengue case.In addition to dengue, viral fevers are also spreading, causing an influx of patients in hospitals. Government and private healthcare facilities are struggling to manage the situation, with overcrowding becoming a critical issue. Nilofar Hospital, in particular, is facing severe shortages, with beds being shared by multiple patients and a lack of adequate medical staff. The testing process is further compounding the crisis, as delays of two to three days in receiving test results are forcing many patients to seek treatment at private hospitals.Authorities are urging residents to take preventive measures against mosquito bites and to seek medical attention promptly if symptoms arise. The situation remains dynamic, and efforts are being intensified to address the healthcare challenges posed by the current outbreak.
