*Hyderabad, August 25, 2024*In an innovative approach to reducing power outages caused by wildlife, Telangana State Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TGSPDCL) is set to introduce new measures aimed at minimizing disruptions due to reptiles and other animals. Reports indicate that approximately 14% of feeder trips in Telangana are attributed to wildlife interference, particularly involving lizards, cats, pigeons, squirrels, and garden lizards. These interruptions occur when reptiles and other animals come into contact with live electrical components such as HG fuse sets, breakers, and insulators near transformers, resulting in power outages. To address this issue, TGSPDCL plans to replace the current metal clamps used in HG fuse sets with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRB) silicon clamps. Unlike metal, FRB silicon is non-conductive, which will help prevent electrocution of wildlife and thereby reduce service interruptions.Initially, about 3,000 FRB silicon clamps will be installed in areas with high tree density and significant reptile activity. The initiative, spearheaded by @musharraf_ias, is anticipated to not only benefit the local wildlife but also enhance the reliability of the power supply.TGSPDCL’s proactive measures represent a significant step towards balancing wildlife protection with maintaining consistent electrical services for residents.
