Individuals found in possession of or using fake Aadhaar cards now face severe penalties, including up to three years in prison and a fine of ₹10,000.The Aadhaar system, which serves as a unique identification number for Indian residents, has become indispensable for accessing a range of services from opening bank accounts to receiving government subsidies. The surge in demand has unfortunately led to a corresponding increase in the use of counterfeit Aadhaar cards. To combat this growing issue, the government has implemented these strict penalties to deter fraudulent activities and maintain the integrity of the Aadhaar system.
