*Hyderabad, September 13, 2024*: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has arrested Priyanka Shivkumar Siddu, a resident of Chembur, Mumbai, for her involvement in a fraudulent job placement scheme that lured unsuspecting individuals to Cambodia under the false promise of employment opportunities, only to force them into cybercrime activities.**Illegal Job Agency and False Promises**Priyanka, who previously worked for a licensed overseas job agency called Maxwell, ventured into her own unauthorized recruitment business after Maxwell closed due to the health issues of its managing director. Without proper licensing, Priyanka misled job seekers by offering visit visas, falsely claiming that they would be converted into work visas upon arrival.**Ties to Cambodian Cybercrime Network**Her operation expanded after connecting with Narayana, a Mumbai-based agent who had traveled to Cambodia and informed Priyanka of supposed data entry jobs. Narayana introduced her to Jithender Shah, alias Amer Khan, director of a Chinese-owned company named Zhan Zei. Priyanka visited Cambodia to assess the opportunities and was promised $500 in commission for each candidate she sent.On returning to India, Priyanka processed visas for her first recruits—her sister’s son, Akshay Vaidhya, and his friend Danish Khan—who were sent to Cambodia. Once there, the victims were forced into cybercrime activities, enduring a harrowing 12-hour journey and coerced labor.**Victims Face Physical and Mental Torture**Priyanka’s illegal recruitment network grew as she advertised high-paying jobs in Cambodia through newspapers and social media, targeting individuals like Vamsi Krishna and Sai Prasad from Hyderabad. Charging ₹30,000 in commission per candidate, she sent them to Cambodia, where they too faced severe physical and mental torture after refusing to engage in the illegal cybercrime activities demanded of them.Vamsi Krishna and Sai Prasad managed to escape and return to India, exposing Priyanka’s role in the scheme. The TGCSB launched an investigation into her operation, ultimately leading to her arrest. Authorities are continuing to probe into Priyanka’s involvement in sending more victims abroad under false pretenses, as well as investigating other possible accomplices connected to this illicit recruitment and cybercrime ring. The TGCSB has warned the public to be cautious of job offers that sound too good to be true and reiterated the importance of verifying the credentials of any job placement agencies before accepting overseas employment offers.
