Telangana 22A Land Row: CCLA Directs Collectors to Remove Erroneously Listed Properties
Hyderabad: The controversy surrounding Telangana’s Section 22-A prohibited properties list has intensified, with senior revenue officials directing district administrations to act quickly on disputed land entries.
According to information available on Sunday, Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) Lokesh Kumar, IAS, held a video conference with district collectors and concerned revenue officials.
He reportedly directed officials to identify lands that were wrongly included in the 22-A prohibited list and initiate steps for their removal.
The meeting continued for nearly three hours, with officials from districts across Telangana participating.
CCLA Seeks Immediate Action on 22A Properties
Lokesh Kumar reportedly instructed collectors to remove eligible properties from the prohibited list without delay.
He also asked officials to send immediate proposals for properties that fall under the CCLA’s jurisdiction.
Such cases, which cannot be cleared at the district level, are expected to be forwarded to the CCLA for further action.
The directions come amid growing public concern over properties being included in the 22-A list.
22A Issue Becomes Major Political Flashpoint
The Section 22-A controversy has emerged as a major political issue in Telangana.
BRS leader T Harish Rao has been repeatedly targeting the Congress government over the alleged wrongful inclusion of private properties in the prohibited list.
He has demanded a white paper and an independent inquiry into changes made to the 22-A list.
Harish Rao has also warned that the BRS would raise the issue strongly during the upcoming Assembly session.
He previously warned of disrupting Assembly proceedings if genuine private properties were not removed from the prohibited list.
Pressure Mounts on Revenue Department
The latest administrative directions come after Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy acknowledged errors in the 22-A land records.
The minister had earlier apologised for the inconvenience caused to property owners. He said genuine cases would be addressed on a fast-track basis.
Ponguleti also said officials had mistakenly included genuine properties in the prohibited list.
He assured that eligible properties would be cleared after proper verification.
The government has been reviewing the disputed entries and taking steps to resolve pending cases.
Officials have also been asked to verify land records and supporting documents before taking decisions on registrations and removals.
BRS Steps Up Attack on Ponguleti
The developments are likely to intensify the political battle over the 22-A issue.
Harish Rao and other BRS leaders have accused the government of mishandling the prohibited properties list.
The BRS has also demanded action against those responsible for alleged irregularities.
With the Assembly session approaching, the 22-A controversy is expected to become a key issue for the opposition.
For property owners, the immediate focus remains on the correction of erroneous entries and restoration of registration rights wherever the land is found legally eligible.
