Potti Sriramulu Telugu University to be Renamed ‘Suravaram University’

**Hyderabad, September 19, 2024** – The historic Potti Sriramulu Telugu University in Hyderabad is set to undergo a name change. The Telangana government is preparing to rename the institution after renowned poet and social activist Suravaram Pratap Reddy. The official approval for this change is expected to be given in the state cabinet meeting scheduled for September 20.Potti Sriramulu Telugu University was established in 1985 and has been a key cultural and academic institution promoting the Telugu language and heritage. After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, the university’s name remained unchanged for ten years as per the provisions of the Tenth Schedule. However, with the completion of this period, the Telangana government has now moved to rename the university in honor of Suravaram Pratap Reddy, acknowledging his contributions to literature, journalism, and activism.A notification has also been issued regarding admissions, clarifying that the university will now cater primarily to students from Telangana. This renaming marks a significant step in preserving and celebrating Telangana’s regional identity and honoring its distinguished historical figures.
