Heavy rains overnight inundated Mumbai’s streets on Tuesday, as per reports from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The monsoon’s southward shift is expected to bring significant rainfall to western and southern states. IMD issued ‘red alerts’ for multiple areas in Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka on Monday.
Delhi and the National Capital Region also experienced showers, offering respite from the oppressive heat. While light to moderate rain and breezy conditions are anticipated in Delhi NCR over the next few days, no color-coded alerts have been issued for the region.
IMD’s forecast for the next five days predicts isolated extremely heavy rainfall over parts of Goa and Maharashtra on July 15 and 16, and across various regions in Karnataka and Kerala on July 15. Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh from July 15 to 19. Other regions likely to experience heavy showers include Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and North Interior Karnataka on July 15 and 16.
In eastern and northeastern India, heavy rainfall is forecasted at isolated places over Odisha on July 15, 17, and 18, and in states like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar on various dates in mid-July.
For northwest India, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan from July 15 to 19, and in East Uttar Pradesh on July 15 and 18. Moderate rainfall is also likely across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi during the next five days.
Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan, northwest India, would have isolated heavy rainfall between July 15 and 19 and East Uttar Pradesh on July 15 as well as July 18. From the next five days, there is also a potential of moderate rainfall in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab Haryana Chandigarh and Delhi.
