160 Electrical Detonators Found Near Madras Regiment Army Camp in Secunderabad
Secunderabad: A discovery of electrical detonators near an Army firing range in Secunderabad has triggered concern among security officials.
As many as 160 electrical detonators were reportedly found inside a bucket behind the firing range of the Madras Regiment Army Camp.
According to Army officials, the detonators were packed in eight bundles, with each bundle containing 20 detonators.
The total value of the recovered material is estimated at around ₹32,000, officials said.
The discovery was reported from an area located behind the firing range. The circumstances in which the detonators reached the spot are yet to be established.
Following information from Army officials, the police alerted the Bomb Disposal Team.
The team is expected to examine the recovered material and assess the nature and safety of the detonators.
Authorities are also likely to examine how the material came to be found near the military premises.
The incident comes amid heightened security attention around the Secunderabad Cantonment area. Recent reports have also highlighted a major arms theft from the Madras Regiment’s armoury in the area.
Officials have not yet publicly disclosed further details about the source or intended use of the detonators.
Electrical detonators are sensitive explosive components and require specialised handling. India’s Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) has also issued regulatory measures concerning electric detonators.
