Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand chaired a comprehensive review meeting on Monday to assess the functioning of the Police Welfare Society and Arogya Bhadratha (Health Protection) schemes, reaffirming that the welfare of police personnel and their families remains a top priority for the department.
During the meeting, the DGP directed officials to strengthen welfare initiatives, including education assistance, medical support, marriage loans, insurance coverage, merit scholarships, and financial aid for competitive examinations such as JEE and NEET. He also stressed the need for transparent and digital implementation of all welfare schemes to ensure benefits reach every eligible police employee.
The DGP revealed that under the Arogya Bhadratha Scheme, 33,126 police personnel and family members received medical treatment in 2025, with an expenditure of ₹181.74 crore. By June 2026, another 12,392 beneficiaries had availed treatment under the scheme, with ₹73.61 crore spent.
Highlighting financial security measures, C.V. Anand said the Group Personal Accidental Insurance Scheme provides compensation ranging from ₹5 lakh for Constables to ASIs, ₹10 lakh for SIs and Inspectors, ₹15 lakh for DSPs, and ₹25 lakh for IPS officers and above in the event of accidental death while on duty.
The DGP also warned against any misuse of welfare schemes, stating that attempts to exploit welfare funds for personal gain would not be tolerated. He instructed officials to strengthen welfare funds through revenues generated from police canteens and commercial complexes, with the income supporting education, scholarships, coaching for Civil Services and Group examinations, and marriage assistance for police families.
To improve accountability, he directed the creation of a comprehensive digital platform for managing beneficiary records, fund utilization, and welfare services, while also calling for welfare committees at different ranks.
Additionally, the DGP instructed officials to facilitate low-interest loans, including 9% for open plots, 6.75% for housing loans, 11% personal loans up to ₹5 lakh, marriage loans up to ₹6 lakh, and education loans up to ₹30 lakh for higher studies in India and abroad.
Concluding the meeting, C.V. Anand emphasized that every welfare scheme must reach deserving police personnel fairly, adding that transparency, ethical governance, and efficient administration are essential for building a stronger welfare system.
