TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh was marshalled out of the West Bengal Assembly and suspended for the remainder of the day after allegedly disrupting House proceedings.
The disruption began when legislator Akhruzzaman, aligned with the Ritabrata camp, rose to speak during a discussion. Ghosh immediately walked to the microphone assigned to Akhruzzaman, questioning why his own name had been removed from the list of speakers.
The protest triggered chaos inside the Assembly, with members entering the well of the House and forcing proceedings to a standstill. Several BJP MLAs also moved towards the well before Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh persuaded them to return to their seats.
Despite repeated appeals from Speaker Rathindra Bose and senior minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay to restore order, Ghosh refused to return to his seat.
Industries Minister Tapas Roy initially sought Ghosh’s suspension for the remainder of the Assembly session until Saturday, citing his “unruly behaviour.” However, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari intervened, arguing against making Ghosh “a hero” through a longer suspension and suggested that suspending him for the day would be sufficient.
