HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath has directed officials to complete the restoration and development works at Thammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu in Hyderabad’s IT corridor by the third week of August.
During a field inspection on Wednesday, the Commissioner reviewed the ongoing works, including pathway construction, main entrance gates, lake bund strengthening, and the development of inlets and outlets to ensure smooth rainwater inflow and floodwater discharge.
He instructed officials to develop the lakes as eco-friendly public spaces with parks, open gyms, children’s play areas, and proper sewage treatment facilities (STPs) to prevent wastewater from entering the lakes. He also emphasized that the projects should improve flood management, groundwater recharge, and public awareness about lake conservation.
HYDRAA has expanded Sunnam Cheruvu from 16.4 acres to 30.5 acres and Thammidikunta from 16.2 acres to 29.3 acres after removing encroachments. The Commissioner said both lakes should be fully ready for inauguration by the third week of August.
