Hyderabad, August 4: Government Junior Colleges in Telangana have registered a historic rise in admissions for the 2026–27 academic year, reflecting growing confidence among students and parents in the State’s public intermediate education system.
According to the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE), Class XI (Intermediate First Year) admissions have reached 85,453 students, up from nearly 75,000 last year, marking an increase of around 14%. The total enrolment across Class XI and XII has climbed to 1,64,730 students.
TGBIE Secretary Smt. Abhilasha Abhinav said the increase in admissions highlights the success of the Telangana Government’s efforts to strengthen public education through academic reforms, digital learning, modern infrastructure, student welfare programmes and industry partnerships.
The Department of Intermediate Education has partnered with leading organisations such as IBM and Hetero Pharmaceuticals to provide students with digital skills, internships, apprenticeships and employment opportunities. These collaborations have already resulted in over 2,000 placements and apprenticeships, while Hetero has committed employment opportunities for more than 300 Intermediate-qualified youth.
A State-Level Orientation Programme was also conducted on August 3 at TGBIE Headquarters, Hyderabad, for District Intermediate Education Officers (DIEOs) and Government Junior College Principals. The programme focused on Samagra Shiksha implementation, financial management through the SNA-SPARSH Portal, and awareness sessions on the POSH Act, 2013.
Government Junior Colleges have introduced several academic reforms, including an NCERT-aligned curriculum, QR code-enabled digital textbooks, leadership training for faculty and technology-driven learning initiatives.
The Telangana Government has also invested significantly in educational infrastructure, including:

Students continue to benefit from free textbooks, uniforms, nutritious breakfast and midday meals, making Government Junior Colleges an increasingly preferred destination for affordable and quality intermediate education.
