UP Minor Allegedly Gang-Raped Inside Sleeper Bus, Two Arrested
New Delhi: A 16-year-old Class 11 student from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gang-raped inside a sleeper bus after seeking help during heavy rain. The incident took place on August 4, police said.
The teenager, from Mainpuri district, had left home after an argument with her mother. She was travelling to Noida to meet her cousin.
According to police, she was supposed to reach Noida Sector 63. However, she mistakenly got off at Pari Chowk around 9 pm amid heavy rain and poor visibility.
She realised that she was still far from her cousin’s home. While looking for transport, an empty sleeper bus stopped nearby.
The girl allegedly asked for help. The conductor reportedly told her that the bus was heading towards Noida Sector 63.
Believing him, she boarded the vehicle.
Bus Was Not Running Regular Passenger Service
Investigators found that the bus was not operating as a regular passenger service that night. It had reportedly developed a technical fault and was taken to a workshop in Surajpur, Greater Noida, for repairs.
The bus was later travelling towards Delhi without passengers. Police said the driver and conductor were inside when the teenager boarded.
According to the survivor’s complaint, the two men allegedly sexually assaulted her inside the moving bus. She also alleged that they threatened her during the incident.
The bus travelled nearly 47 kilometres before reaching the Kashmere Gate area in Delhi.
The accused allegedly abandoned the girl near Kashmere Gate ISBT and fled. She then approached the police and reported the incident.
Driver and Conductor Arrested
Delhi Police arrested the bus driver, identified as Kuldeep, and conductor Sandeep. The arrests were made from a parking area in Timarpur, police said.
Police used CCTV footage and other investigative inputs to trace the suspects. The sleeper bus was also seized and sent for forensic examination.
A case has been registered at Kashmere Gate police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act.
The survivor was produced before the Child Welfare Committee. She also underwent a medical examination and counselling, according to police.
The case has raised fresh concerns over safety checks for private and sleeper buses. Questions have also emerged about how the vehicle travelled from Greater Noida to Delhi without intervention.
The investigation is continuing. Police are examining the bus, CCTV footage and other evidence as part of the probe.
