New Delhi – In a pivotal ruling with far-reaching implications, the Supreme Court has declared that food sellers across the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh will no longer be obligated to display the names of owners or staff employed at their establishments. Instead, they are only required to prominently showcase the types of food served, marking a significant shift in regulatory requirements. The decision, which came in response to petitions challenging governmental directives, underscores a balance between regulatory compliance and business autonomy. During the hearing, Congress leader and prominent advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi criticized the government’s order as potentially catastrophic for businesses, describing it as “Economic Death.””The Supreme Court’s verdict acknowledges the rights of food sellers to operate without undue administrative burden,” remarked a spokesperson for the Food Sellers Association, welcoming the decision. “This ruling aligns with our members’ interests in maintaining clarity and focus on food offerings, which is central to customer experience.”
