Customs Head Constable Arrested for Bribery at Kandla SEZ

*Kutch, Gujarat* – In a significant action against corruption, the Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Ishaq Abdulkarim Sama, a head constable with the Customs Department at the Kandla Special Economic Zone (SEZ), on Wednesday. Sama was apprehended red-handed while accepting an illegal bribe of Rs 3,000 from a complainant.According to an ACB official, Sama demanded the bribe to facilitate the smooth entry and exit of workers from a private company into and out of the Kandla SEZ without facing harassment. The complainant, a vigilant citizen employed in labor management, reported Sama’s corrupt demand to the ACB in Gandhidham.Responding to the complaint, ACB officials conducted a sting operation at the Old Gate entrance of the Kandla SEZ. During the operation, Sama was caught in the act of accepting the bribe, confirming his misuse of his official position.The operation was led by Police Inspector T.H. Patel from the Gandhidham ACB Police Station, with oversight from Assistant Director K.H. Gohil of the Border Division in Bhuj. The bribe money was recovered on-site, and Sama was taken into custody for further investigation.This arrest underscores ongoing efforts to combat corruption within the public sector. In a related context, Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had previously seized 260 kg of heroin, valued at Rs 1,500 crore, at Kandla Port in 2022, highlighting the strategic importance of the region in national security efforts.
