BJP and AIMIM MPs Unite in Opposition to HYDRAA Demolitions

In an unusual show of bipartisan unity, BJP MP Etela Rajender and AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi have both expressed strong disapproval of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring Agency’s (HYDRAA) recent demolitions. The agency’s initiative to remove alleged encroachments around Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) has sparked controversy from both sides of the political spectrum.Asaduddin Owaisi, the MP for Hyderabad and leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), criticized the selectivity of the demolitions. “Will government buildings and offices located within Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones also face demolition? Necklace Road falls under FTL; will it be demolished too? What about significant sites like the GHMC headquarters at Hussain Sagar or the Central Government office at Himayat Sagar?” Owaisi questioned, challenging the criteria applied by the state government.BJP MP Etela Rajender also voiced strong objections, focusing his criticism on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. “Revanth Reddy is playing the role of a hero in this demolition saga. While demolishing the homes of the poor and middle class, he is conveniently ignoring the properties of the affluent and powerful,” Rajender remarked. He accused the government of intimidating ordinary citizens who had constructed their homes with government permits years ago, only to now face demolition threats.Rajender further demanded, “Who granted Revanth Reddy the authority to demolish these homes? If the government is serious, it should target the properties of the wealthy, not the modest homes of the middle class.”The rare alliance between these political opponents underscores the contentious nature of the ongoing demolitions and the broader debate over land management and enforcement policies in Hyderabad.
