**Hyderabad, October 4, 2024** – Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to draft a comprehensive new sports policy aimed at bringing international recognition to Telangana while training world-class athletes. In a high-level meeting with state government advisers K. Keshavrao, A.P. Jithender, Telangana Sports Authority Chairman Shiva Sena, and other top officials, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for a forward-thinking approach, with a clear focus on the 2036 Olympics.The meeting centered around reviewing the draft of the new sports policy, discussing global best practices and strategies from other states to foster athletic excellence. The Chief Minister advised that the new policy should set specific targets to promote a culture of sports in Telangana while creating a pipeline of talent for international competitions.One of the major highlights of the meeting was the Chief Minister’s proposal to establish a sports university, which will be named **Young India Physical Education and Sports University**. Modeled after the successful **Young India Skill University**, this institution will operate under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to ensure autonomy and quality education. A special board will be set up, with a dedicated chairman to lead the university.The university, to be established at Gachibowli Sports Stadium on a 70-acre campus, will act as a sports hub, offering training in 14 different sports, including cricket, hockey, football, basketball, swimming, tennis, badminton, shooting, boxing, wrestling, table tennis, athletics, gymnastics, and aquatics. In addition to Gachibowli, several prominent sports facilities such as the LB Stadium, Hakimpet Sports School, Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Indoor Stadium, Sarurnagar Indoor Stadium, and the Velodrome at Osmania University will be brought under one umbrella, turning them into an integrated sports hub.Revanth Reddy also highlighted the importance of tailoring the sports policy to suit the geographical conditions and preferences of Telangana’s youth. He stressed that the state must recruit coaches from across the country to ensure top-tier training for athletes.The Chief Minister further called for a clear policy to incentivize athletes who achieve national and international success, ensuring that they receive substantial recognition and support from the state.The proposed policy aims to position Telangana as a leader in sports education and athlete development, with the ultimate goal of producing medal winners for India at the 2036 Olympics and other international competitions.
