In a significant judicial development, Justice Apresh Kumar Singh was formally sworn in as the *new Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court. The swearing-in ceremony took place at *Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad, at 12:30 PM on Saturday.
*Telangana Governor Dr. C.P. Radhakrishnan, in the presence of several dignitaries, administered the oath of office. Among the attendees were **Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, **Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, **Legislative Council Chairman Jithender Reddy, **Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, senior judges, ministers, and top officials, including the *DGP and other members of the judiciary.
7th Chief Justice Since Formation of Telangana High Court
With this appointment, Justice A.K. Singh becomes the seventh Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court since its formation. He takes charge from *Justice Sujoy Paul, who had been serving as the Acting Chief Justice before his transfer to the *Calcutta High Court.
Justice Singh previously served as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court before being transferred to Telangana based on the recommendation of the *Supreme Court Collegium, a proposal that was subsequently approved by *President Droupadi Murmu.
Profile of Justice Apresh Kumar Singh
Born on *July 7, 1965, Justice Apresh Kumar Singh is a seasoned jurist with over three decades of legal experience. He completed his *LLB from Delhi University and began his legal career in 1990.
- Practiced at the Allahabad High Court from 1990 to 2000
- Shifted practice to the Jharkhand High Court in 2001
- Elevated as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court on January 24, 2012
- Served as the Executive Chairman of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (2021–2023)
- Acted as the Interim Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court before becoming the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court in April 2023
His elevation to Telangana High Court marks another milestone in his distinguished career, and legal experts believe his leadership will enhance judicial efficiency in the state.
