What Happened
On August 8, as Chittibabu and his family drove through Mancherial, their vehicle collided with a stray cow that had wandered onto the road. Four individuals inside the vehicle sustained severe injuries. The owner of the cow apparently left the animal on the road after the impact. The victim’s brother, Manibabu, filed a complaint. Police promptly registered a case and arrested Chittibabu. The investigation is now underway.
Legal and Road Safety Implications
Accidents involving livestock on highways highlight complex liability issues. Under general legal principles, livestock owners may be held responsible if their animals stray cause harm—unless they can prove adequate fencing and reasonable precautions were in place. This incident underscores the need for stricter animal control policies and safer driving awareness in semi-rural areas.
