Hyderabad, September 2, 2025 –
Telangana is gearing up for a major reshuffle in its police administration as Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar Jitender is set to retire by the end of this month. With his superannuation approaching, speculations are rife over who will take charge as the new police chief of Telangana.
According to highly placed sources, Intelligence Chief Shivadhar Reddy has emerged as the frontrunner for the prestigious post. If his elevation is confirmed, it will open up the Intelligence Chief’s position, which is likely to be filled by *V. C. Sajjanar, currently serving as the *Managing Director of TSRTC.
Key Transfers Under Consideration
The reshuffle is not limited to the DGP’s post. Reports suggest that the Telangana government has already begun internal discussions about transfers and promotions across several top departments:
- *C. V. Anand, currently Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, may be moved as the *Director General of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
- In his place, *Mahesh Bhagwat, Additional DGP (Law & Order), is being considered for the role of *Hyderabad Police Commissioner.
- *Ravigupta, Special Chief Secretary (Home), could be shifted to head the *Vigilance Department.
- *Soumya Mishra, DG of Prisons, is being considered for the position of *Principal Secretary (Home).
These changes are expected to trigger further transfers among Commissioners, Superintendents of Police (SPs), and Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) across Cyberabad, Rachakonda, and other key districts.
Police Circles Abuzz with Speculations
The possible reshuffle has created a sense of suspense within the police department, with officials closely watching who will be assigned to which key posts. Sources indicate that at least three police commissionerates and several district SP offices may see new officers taking charge.
Adding to the buzz, there are speculations of an extension for the outgoing DGP Jitender, similar to the tenure extension granted to the state’s Chief Secretary earlier this year. However, clarity on this will only emerge after the central government’s nod.
Why the Reshuffle Matters
The appointment of a new police chief is crucial for Telangana, as the state faces challenges related to law and order, cybercrime, and rural policing. The ruling government is also keen to ensure strong coordination between the police and intelligence wings ahead of upcoming elections.
The final decision of the state cabinet is expected soon, and the announcement of the new DGP of Telangana is likely to be made within the next few weeks.
