Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu Reviews Rescue Efforts for Residents Stranded in Nepal Floods
Amaravati, August 27, 2026: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday reviewed the situation of state residents affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.
During a high-level meeting with officials, the Chief Minister sought details of the rescue and relief measures taken so far. Officials said 41 people from Andhra Pradesh have been identified as affected by the floods.
Of them, 34 people have been confirmed safe, while the whereabouts of seven others are yet to be ascertained. Authorities are continuing efforts to trace those who remain uncontactable.
34 Andhra Pradesh Residents Confirmed Safe
Officials informed the Chief Minister that four people from the Kurnool-Adoni region are safe in Tibet. They remain stranded amid difficult conditions.
Another 28 pilgrims from the Tirupati region have been confirmed safe in Kathmandu. Authorities are maintaining contact with them and monitoring their situation.
The affected groups include people who travelled along the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage route, which has been severely disrupted by the floods.
Seven People Yet to Be Traced
Officials said seven Andhra Pradesh residents from Chittoor, Vijayawada, Kakinada and Guntur are currently untraceable.
Some of those reported missing had travelled towards Mansarovar as part of pilgrimage groups. Communication has been disrupted in several affected areas, making it difficult to immediately establish their whereabouts.
Recent reports have also highlighted difficulties in tracing Indian nationals caught in the Nepal-Tibet border disaster. The Centre and state governments are coordinating with local authorities to verify information.
AP Bhavan Sets Up Control Room
A dedicated control room has been established at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi to monitor the situation.
Officials are collecting information continuously and coordinating with the Central Government. They are also maintaining contact with Indian diplomatic missions and authorities in Kathmandu and China.
The state machinery is working to verify the status of affected pilgrims and facilitate their safe evacuation.
CM Naidu Orders Safe Evacuation
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to explore every available route for evacuation.
He instructed authorities to consider road, air and other alternative transportation options. The immediate priority, he said, should be bringing stranded Andhra Pradesh residents back to safety.
Naidu also stressed the need for close coordination between departments and agencies. He directed officials to provide families with timely information.
The Chief Minister further asked officials to continuously monitor developments and keep him updated with the latest information.
Nepal Flood Crisis Impacts Pilgrims
The Andhra Pradesh rescue effort comes amid a major flood disaster along the Nepal-Tibet border. The flooding has affected roads, bridges and communication networks in several areas.
A large number of foreign nationals, including Indians, remain uncontactable or stranded. Many were travelling on pilgrimage and tourist routes in the Himalayan region.
Rescue operations are continuing despite challenging terrain and damaged infrastructure. Authorities are using multiple agencies to locate missing people and evacuate those who have been found safe.
For Andhra Pradesh, officials said the focus remains on tracing the seven uncontactable residents and safely bringing all stranded people home.
