Bihar: 80 Dalit Homes Set on Fire in Nawada Amid Land Dispute

**Nawada, Bihar** – In a shocking incident, a group of miscreants set fire to around 80 houses belonging to a Dalit community in Nawada district on Wednesday evening, allegedly due to a land dispute. The violence erupted following a confrontation between two groups, resulting in heavy clashes and the subsequent arson.The incident took place in the Manjhi Tola area, under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police station. According to Nawada Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinav Dhiman, authorities were informed about the fire at around 7:30 PM. Fire trucks were immediately dispatched, and it took some time to bring the blaze under control.SP Dhiman stated, “Preliminary investigations suggest that the violence was triggered by a land dispute. We have registered a case and detained ten people in connection with the incident. A search operation is underway to apprehend other suspects involved.”Local reports indicate that the arsonists also fired shots in the air during the attack, further escalating the tension. A large contingent of security personnel has since been deployed in the area to maintain order, and authorities have confirmed that the situation is now under control.The incident has sparked political reactions, with opposition leaders condemning the government’s failure to prevent such atrocities. Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav criticized the Nitish Kumar government, calling it a “great jungle raj” and accusing it of negligence. “Over 100 homes of Dalits have been set on fire in Nawada. Bihar is burning under the rule of Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar, while the government remains indifferent. This oppression of Dalits will not be tolerated,” Yadav remarked.Congress leader Srinivas also expressed outrage, saying, “Not one, not two, but 80 homes of Dalits have been burned by powerful individuals. This horrifying act occurred in Nawada, under the double-engine government.”As investigations continue, the incident has highlighted ongoing tensions over land disputes and the vulnerability of marginalized communities in Bihar.
