Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Announces Stricter Measures Against Hoax Bomb Threats on Flights

**Delhi, October 21, 2024** — Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced on Monday that the government is taking legislative steps to address the recent spate of hoax bomb threats on both domestic and international flights. Speaking to the media, the minister stated that such acts would now be classified as cognizable offences, meaning the perpetrators could face both punishment and fines.Referring to the Ministry’s response to these threats, Minister Naidu outlined two potential areas for legislative reform. “From the Ministry, we have thought of some legislative action if it is required. We have come to the conclusion that there are two areas that we can explore: 1) Amendment in Aircraft Security Rules…we want to ensure that once we catch the perpetrator behind these hoax calls, they will be placed on the no-flying list. 2) Strengthening the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act,” he said. These proposed amendments are aimed at curbing the rise in hoax bomb threats, which have caused significant disruptions to flight operations and passenger safety in recent months. By categorizing such acts as unlawful, the government intends to deter future threats while ensuring the safety and security of civil aviation in the country.Minister Naidu emphasized that these legislative actions would reinforce aviation security and create stronger deterrents against individuals engaging in such unlawful acts.
