CM Revanth Reddy Orders Relief Measures for Flood Victims in Khammam District

**Khammam, September 3, 2024** — Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to take immediate action to support the victims of the recent floods caused by the overflow of the Akeru River in Khammam district. The directive came during the Chief Minister’s visit to the flood-affected areas, where he witnessed firsthand the devastation and interacted with the affected families.In a significant move, the Chief Minister directed the officials to file a single First Information Report (FIR) to streamline the process and ensure that all those whose homes were damaged or submerged due to the floodwaters receive new identification cards and necessary certificates promptly. This measure aims to facilitate quicker relief and rehabilitation for the affected residents.Further, CM Revanth Reddy announced a compensation package for the farmers who lost their crops in the floods. Each affected farmer will receive Rs. 10,000 per acre as financial assistance to help them recover from their losses. During his visit, the Chief Minister toured the flood-hit areas, inspected the dams along the Akeru River, and assessed the damage caused by the flooding. In Sitarampuram Thanda, one of the worst-hit locations, he met with the victims’ families and assured them of all possible support from the government. He acknowledged the recurring challenges faced by the residents of Sitaram Thanda and the adjacent Thandas whenever the Akeru River overflows. To address this, CM Revanth Reddy ordered officials to merge the three Thandas into one large village and construct Indiramma houses for the affected families in a safer location.Additionally, CM Reddy instructed the authorities to begin construction of a new bridge based on scientific assessments of water flow and control to prevent future disasters. This infrastructure development is expected to provide a long-term solution to the flood-related problems faced by the communities.The Chief Minister also expressed his condolences over the tragic deaths of young scientist Ashwini and her father, Motilal, who were swept away by the surging floodwaters. To support the bereaved family, CM Revanth Reddy announced the possibility of offering a government job to Ashwini’s brother. Moreover, he assured that an Indiramma house would be granted to the family, recognizing that they currently do not have a home.These measures are part of the Telangana government’s comprehensive response to the severe flooding that has affected multiple regions in the state, aiming to provide immediate relief and long-term security to the affected citizens.
