Delhi Bus Rape Case: What Happened?
New Delhi: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped inside a sleeper bus in the Delhi-NCR region, police said.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of August 4 near Pari Chowk in Greater Noida.
The teenager was travelling from Uttar Pradesh to Noida to meet her cousin. She reportedly got off at Pari Chowk by mistake during heavy rain and darkness.
Stranded at the location, she allegedly signalled an empty sleeper bus for help. Police said the driver, identified as Kuldeep, and conductor, Sandeep, stopped the vehicle.
The two men allegedly told her that the bus was heading towards Noida Sector 63. She then boarded the bus.
Girl Allegedly Assaulted During Bus Journey
According to the teenager’s complaint, the alleged sexual assault took place after the bus started moving.
Police said the two accused allegedly threatened the girl when she resisted.
The bus later travelled towards Delhi and reached the Kashmere Gate area. The teenager was allegedly left near the Ring Road close to the Kashmere Gate bus terminal.
She subsequently approached the Kashmere Gate police and reported the incident.
Driver and Conductor Arrested
Delhi Police arrested Kuldeep and Sandeep from a parking area in Timarpur, according to reports.
Police have also seized the sleeper bus linked to the case. The vehicle has been sent for forensic examination.
Investigators are examining evidence from the bus and CCTV footage from the route.
A forensic team reportedly recovered material from inside the vehicle that may assist the investigation.
Bus Had Earlier Gone for Repairs
Police sources said the bus had earlier developed a mechanical problem.
It was reportedly taken to a workshop in Greater Noida’s Surajpur area for repairs.
After the repair work, the driver and conductor were taking the empty bus towards Timarpur when they allegedly encountered the teenager near Pari Chowk.
The bus travelled around 47 kilometres before reaching the Kashmere Gate area, according to police accounts reported by news outlets.
Investigation Underway
The accused have been arrested in connection with the case, while the investigation remains underway.
Police are examining the forensic evidence and CCTV footage as part of the probe.
