*Vikarabad, November 6* – A drone used for surveying in the development of Vikarabad’s digital master plan caught fire on Tuesday after colliding with high-tension electrical wires, reportedly due to a technical malfunction. The drone was part of a high-profile Geographic Information System (GIS)-based survey conducted by local revenue officials in partnership with municipal authorities and supported by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. This survey is a component of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 initiative, which is partially funded by the central government and aims to enhance urban infrastructure and planning.Sources revealed that the drone encountered trouble when it reached its assigned altitude but then unexpectedly descended. Losing connection with its controller, it veered off course and became entangled in power lines, causing it to ignite and crash into an adjacent agricultural field. The blaze was contained, and no injuries were reported. Officials suspect that the mishap was due to a technical glitch that led to the drone’s disconnection from its remote controller. The incident has raised concerns over safety protocols in drone operations and the handling of survey equipment near critical infrastructure. The survey project is part of efforts by Vikarabad district authorities, collaborating with Survey of India experts and local municipal officials, to modernize urban planning through GIS data. The aim is to create a comprehensive master plan that will improve infrastructure and guide future development in Vikarabad and other towns selected under AMRUT 2.0.The unfortunate accident has put a temporary halt on the survey while officials investigate the technical issues and implement additional safety measures.
