**Hyderabad, October 4, 2024** – In a major restructuring move aimed at better governance and urban management, Minister Komatireddy Venkatreddy announced that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will be divided into four separate municipal corporations for the upcoming 2026 elections. Each corporation will have its own mayor, reflecting Hyderabad’s rapidly growing population, which is projected to reach 1.5 crore by 2026.The decision to divide GHMC comes as a response to the increasing challenges of administering a city of Hyderabad’s size. “As Hyderabad grows, so must its administrative framework. The city’s expansion has been phenomenal, and we must ensure that governance keeps pace,” stated Minister Komatireddy. “This division will enable us to provide more focused and efficient services to our citizens.”Each of the four corporations will operate independently, with their own set of elected representatives and mayors, ensuring more localized governance and faster decision-making. The creation of four separate corporations is expected to reduce the burden on the existing GHMC, streamline services, and allow for more tailored urban planning in each zone. The restructuring plan comes ahead of the 2026 municipal elections and is seen as a strategic move to address the rising demands of urban infrastructure, public services, and civic amenities. Hyderabad has witnessed tremendous growth in recent years, with its booming IT sector and real estate expansion attracting millions of new residents. The division of GHMC is aimed at ensuring that all areas of the city receive equitable attention and development.
