Hyderabad, August 28, 2026: Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju reviewed the progress of Hyderabad Metro Rail projects at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat on Friday.

The meeting focused on key issues affecting the ongoing Metro Rail works. Officials also discussed the progress of various initiatives linked to Hyderabad’s urban transport network.

The review comes as Hyderabad prepares for a major expansion of its Metro Rail system. The state government has been pushing for faster implementation to meet the city’s growing mobility needs.

Sanjay Jaju Reviews Metro Rail Projects

The Chief Secretary stressed the importance of timely implementation of ongoing Metro Rail initiatives. Strengthening public transport remains a key priority for Hyderabad’s future growth.

The discussions also covered project-related issues and the need to address bottlenecks. Faster coordination between departments is expected to support smoother execution.

Jaju has previously reviewed Metro Rail development as Chairman of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Board. At a July meeting, he called for measures to make Metro travel safer and more convenient.

He had also proposed a common mobility ticketing system for Metro and TGSRTC services. The proposal aims to allow commuters to use a single ticket across public transport modes.

Focus on Hyderabad Metro Phase-II Expansion

The latest review assumes importance amid plans to expand the Hyderabad Metro network.

The Telangana government has proposed a major Phase-II expansion. The submitted plan covers 122.9 kilometres across seven corridors, with an estimated project cost of ₹38,595 crore.

The state has also been pursuing discussions with the Centre regarding the Metro expansion. In June, an agreement was reached to appoint SBICAPS as a consultant for studying Phase-I valuation, financing and Phase-II expansion.

The Centre has separately stated that Metro proposals undergo detailed appraisal. The process includes feasibility checks, clarifications and assessment of available resources.

Old City Metro and Future Mobility

Hyderabad’s Metro expansion also includes efforts to improve connectivity in underserved areas.

The Telangana government has been working on the proposed Old City Metro corridor. In August, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to speed up work on the 7.5-kilometre MGBS-Chandrayangutta stretch.

The government is also looking at ways to handle rising Metro ridership. Additional coaches and better integration with other public transport services are part of the broader mobility strategy.

The latest review by Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju highlights the government’s focus on keeping Metro projects on schedule. The aim is to create a stronger and more connected public transport system for Hyderabad.
