*Hyderabad, September 17, 2024*: The Telangana government is set to overhaul the state’s education system by phasing out the existing intermediate (inter) education system starting next year. This major reform comes as part of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.The traditional inter-system will be replaced with the 5+3+3+4 structure, aimed at providing a more comprehensive and progressive framework for students. Under this new system, the first five years will consist of three years of Anganwadi and preschool education, followed by classes 1 and 2. The next three years will cover classes 3, 4, and 5, and the subsequent three years will encompass classes 6, 7, and 8.For secondary education, students will then proceed to a four-year structure comprising classes 9, 10, 11, and 12. This move aligns with NEP-2020’s vision to offer students a more flexible and multidisciplinary approach to learning, while enhancing foundational skills in the early years of education. The state’s decision to adopt the 5+3+3+4 model reflects the broader nationwide shift in education reform, with an emphasis on holistic development and preparation for higher education and employment.
