Srirampur, October 22, 2025:

Police in Telangana have intercepted an illegal transport of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice near Sundarayya Colony under the CCC Naspur Police Station limits. Acting on routine patrol duty, officers led by Sub-Inspector Upender Rao seized five quintals of PDS rice being smuggled to Maharashtra.

According to the police, the team was conducting regular patrolling near Tholla Vaagu when they noticed a Bolero vehicle moving suspiciously. Upon inspection, they discovered bags of subsidized rice meant for distribution to ration cardholders under government welfare schemes.

The driver, identified as Chintala Moses from *NTR Nagar in Mancherial, was allegedly transporting the rice illegally across state borders for resale in Maharashtra. Authorities confirmed that the seized rice was part of the *PDS stock, which is not permitted for trade or private sale.

Following the discovery, the police registered a case against the accused under the Essential Commodities Act and confiscated both the rice and the vehicle involved in the smuggling attempt.

Sub-Inspector Upender Rao stated that the department has intensified surveillance in border areas to curb black market activities and illegal transport of essential commodities. He also warned that strict action will be taken against individuals involved in diverting government-subsidized goods for personal profit.

Police sources revealed that similar operations are being conducted across Mancherial district to ensure that *PDS supplies reach genuine beneficiaries. The confiscated rice will be handed over to the *Civil Supplies Department after due legal process.
