The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revealed that approximately 97.92 percent of the Rs 2000 notes, which were recently withdrawn from circulation, remain in the hands of the public. As of the latest update, a total of Rs 7409 crore in these high-denomination notes is still unexchanged.In 2023, the RBI announced the discontinuation of the Rs 2000 note, urging holders to exchange or deposit these notes before the deadline. To facilitate this process, the RBI has made provisions for people to exchange their Rs 2000 notes at 19 regional offices across the country. Additionally, the RBI has enabled an option for individuals to send their notes to these centers via postal services.The RBI continues to encourage the public to utilize these options to ensure a smooth transition and proper handling of the withdrawn currency.
