Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Regrets Comments on Supreme Court Decision, Claims They Were Taken Out of Context

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has expressed regret over remarks he made concerning the Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha. Reddy’s comments, which suggested a possible political deal between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and BRS to secure her bail, provoked a strong reaction from the Supreme Court. In a statement on social media, Revanth Reddy clarified that his remarks had been misinterpreted by the media. He emphasized his respect for the judiciary, stating, “I have the highest regard and full faith in the Indian Judiciary. Certain press reports dated 29th August 2024 have inaccurately conveyed that I am questioning the judicial wisdom of the Hon’ble Court.”Reddy reiterated his belief in the judicial process, expressing regret for any misrepresentation of his comments. “I unconditionally express my regret for the statements reflected in the press reports,” he added. “The remarks attributed to me have been taken out of context. I have unconditional respect and the highest regard for the Supreme Court and its independence.”The controversy arose after the objected to Reddy’s comments linking Kavitha’s bail to a political deal. During the hearing of a petition to transfer the 2015 cash-for-vote scam trial, in which Reddy is an accused, the three-member bench, including Justices P K Mishra and K V Viswanathan, asserted that judicial decisions are free from political influence.“We are not concerned with politicians or criticisms of our orders. We act according to our conscience and oath,” the Supreme Court bench declared, emphasizing that judicial orders are not influenced by external consideration.
