22 BRS MLAs, Including KTR and Harish Rao, Suspended from Telangana Assembly for Rest of Session
Hyderabad, September 9, 2026: The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Wednesday suspended 22 Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs, including party working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) and senior leader T Harish Rao, for the remainder of the ongoing Assembly session.
The action came after BRS members staged protests inside the House and allegedly disrupted the proceedings.
Soon after the Assembly convened on the third day of the session, BRS legislators raised slogans of “We Want Justice” and demanded a discussion on issues raised by the party. The protests led to repeated disruptions in the House.
Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu moved a motion seeking the suspension of the BRS members. Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar subsequently approved the proposal and announced their suspension for the remaining period of the session.
KTR, Harish Rao Among 22 Suspended BRS MLAs
The suspended legislators include prominent BRS leaders KT Rama Rao, T Harish Rao, G Jagadish Reddy, Gangula Kamalakar, Anil Jadhav, Kaushik Reddy, Madhavaram Krishna Rao, Kova Lakshmi, Manik Rao, Chinta Prabhakar, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Prashanth Reddy, Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Sabita Indra Reddy, D Sudheer Reddy, Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Kaleru Venkatesh, Vijeyudu, K Sanjay, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and KP Vivekananda.
The suspension means that the 22 BRS MLAs will not be allowed to participate in the remaining proceedings of the current Assembly session.
BRS Protests Disrupt Assembly Proceedings
The latest confrontation followed days of escalating tensions between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS.
BRS legislators had been protesting over several issues, including allegations of police misconduct against women MLAs during an earlier protest. The party also sought discussions on other political issues raised during the ongoing session.
According to reports, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar repeatedly urged the protesting members to return to their seats. However, the protests continued, prompting the government to seek disciplinary action.
After the suspension announcement, reports said that BRS MLAs attempted to meet the Speaker, while marshals intervened during the tense situation.
Bhatti Vikramarka Slams BRS Over Assembly Disruptions
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka strongly criticised the conduct of the BRS members and called for maintaining the dignity of the House.
He said the Assembly must function smoothly and that elected representatives should respect the authority of the Speaker.
Bhatti also referred to recent political controversies involving alleged insults and protests surrounding BRS leaders. He accused the opposition of creating unnecessary confrontations inside and outside the legislature.
The Deputy Chief Minister also raised concerns over the alleged "purification" of a road using turmeric water after Dalit groups held a protest near Erravalli. He described such actions as an insult to Dalits and criticised what he called feudal tendencies.
Telangana Assembly Tensions Continue
The suspension of all 22 BRS MLAs marks a major escalation in the ongoing political confrontation between the Congress government and the principal opposition party in Telangana.
The Assembly has witnessed heated exchanges and repeated protests over the past several days. The latest action is expected to further intensify the political battle between the Congress and the BRS.
With the BRS legislators now suspended for the remainder of the session, the Congress government is likely to continue the Assembly proceedings without the participation of the suspended opposition members.
