Veerlapalli Shankar in Fresh Trouble Over KCR Remarks, BRS Steps Up Protests and Legal Action
Hyderabad, September 9: Shadnagar Congress MLA Veerlapalli Shankar has landed in fresh controversy after his alleged remarks against former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao, popularly known as KCR.
The comments have triggered a major political row in Telangana. The controversy has also added to the already tense atmosphere between the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
BRS leaders and workers strongly condemned Shankar’s remarks. Protests were held in several places, while complaints seeking legal action were also submitted to the police.
BRS Leaders Protest Against Veerlapalli Shankar
The controversy erupted after Shankar reportedly made remarks referring to KCR’s death and mentioned playing "Chavu Dappu," or traditional funeral drums, outside the BRS chief’s residence.
The remarks drew widespread criticism from BRS leaders and supporters.
BRS workers in Shadnagar burned an effigy of the Congress MLA and raised slogans against him. Party leaders accused Shankar of crossing the limits of acceptable political criticism.
The BRS has maintained that political differences should not result in personal remarks about the death or health of political leaders.
RS Praveen Kumar Files Police Complaint
BRS general secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills police against Veerlapalli Shankar.
He sought criminal action over the MLA’s alleged remarks against KCR. Praveen Kumar also demanded that the Congress leadership distance itself from the comments.
According to reports, the complaint sought the registration of a criminal case against Shankar under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
BRS leaders have described the remarks as inflammatory and unacceptable.
Political Heat Rises During Telangana Assembly Session
The latest controversy comes amid intense confrontations between Congress and BRS leaders during the ongoing Telangana Assembly session.
The Assembly has witnessed repeated disruptions and heated exchanges between the ruling party and opposition legislators.
More than 20 BRS MLAs, including senior leaders K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao, were suspended for the remainder of the ongoing session following disruptions in the House.

Mahesh Kumar Goud Says Congress Does Not Wish Death on Anyone
TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud has indicated that such remarks should not have been made.
He said the Congress party does not wish death upon anyone and stressed the need for responsible political language.
The remarks come as Congress leaders themselves have called for maintaining dignity and discipline in political and legislative discourse.
Not the First Controversy Involving Shankar
This is not the first time Veerlapalli Shankar has faced criticism over his public remarks.
He was previously involved in a controversy over comments that were criticised by members of the Velama community.
Reports said the controversy led to protests and complaints, following which Shankar clarified his position and expressed regret if his remarks had hurt anyone.
