Hyderabad | July 18: The Telangana government is set to launch new QR code-enabled smart ration cards for eligible beneficiaries across the state. Printing of more than 1.05 crore smart ration cards has already been completed, and the cards have been dispatched to all districts.The official distribution date is expected to be announced by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Once approved, the state government will begin issuing the new smart ration cards to beneficiaries.Designed in the size of a credit/debit card, the new ration cards will display the cardholder’s photo, name, and address. According to reports, the cards will also feature photographs of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy.Each card will include a QR code that, when scanned, provides complete beneficiary details, including family member information and the history of ration items such as rice, sugar, and wheat received under the Public Distribution System (PDS).Currently, ration cards in Telangana are issued in paper format. This marks the first time since the formation of Telangana that beneficiaries will receive durable smart card-style ration cards.
