Hyderabad: HYDRA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Friday inspected flood-prone areas across the city and reviewed the progress of desilting and flood channel restoration works to ensure there is no flood threat during the ongoing monsoon.
The Commissioner visited the flood channels leading to Khajaguda Lake near the Gachibowli Junction and inspected areas where severe waterlogging had occurred earlier this monsoon near Preston Prime Mall. During the inspection, officials pointed out that one vent of the box nala leading to Khajaguda Lake was completely clogged. The Commissioner directed officials to expedite desilting operations and also inspected the connecting flood channels.
Officials informed him that preventive measures already taken had ensured there was no waterlogging during the recent rains. They added that clearing silt from the remaining two vents of the box drains crossing the Old Bombay Highway would eliminate the flood risk in the area.
Earlier, the Commissioner also visited the underpass opposite AMB Mall at Kondapur Junction to review the reasons behind recent water accumulation. Officials explained that two automatic water pumps had malfunctioned, causing the flooding. He instructed authorities to repair the pumps immediately, warning that waterlogging at this critical underpass could severely disrupt traffic across Hyderabad’s IT corridor.
To strengthen flood preparedness, the Commissioner directed that 25 HP pumps be stationed at the location to prevent water accumulation during heavy rainfall. He also instructed officials to continuously monitor flood channels and take immediate action wherever required.
The inspection was attended by HYDRA Additional Director Varlapapaiah, along with officials from the Traffic Police, CMC, and GHMC.
