Kejriwal Promises to Ban E20 Petrol in Goa Within 5 Days if AAP Wins 2027 Election

Kejriwal Promises to Ban E20 Petrol in Goa Within 5 Days if AAP Wins 2027 Election

Panaji: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has made a major promise ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections. He said an AAP government would ban the sale of E20 petrol in the state within five days of taking office.

Kejriwal made the announcement during a town hall in Goa while attacking the Centre’s ethanol-blended petrol policy. He said the ban would come into effect within five days after the March 10, 2027 election results if AAP forms the government.

The AAP leader also issued a personal political challenge. He said he would quit politics if the promised ban was not implemented within the stated period.

Kejriwal Raises Concerns Over E20 Petrol

E20 petrol contains 20% ethanol blended with 80% petrol. The fuel became the standard petrol blend available at fuel stations across India in April 2026 following a phased rollout.

Kejriwal alleged that the higher ethanol blend is causing problems for vehicle owners. He claimed that some vehicles are suffering engine-related issues and reduced mileage.

He also argued that motorists should have access to petrol with lower ethanol content. According to him, consumers should not be forced to use E20 fuel.

Claims Link Between E20 and Sugar Prices

Kejriwal also linked the ethanol programme to rising sugar prices. He alleged that large quantities of sugarcane are being diverted towards ethanol production.

The AAP leader claimed that sugarcane equivalent to nearly 25 lakh tonnes of sugar has been diverted for ethanol production. He argued that this has reduced sugar availability and contributed to higher prices.

However, these claims have been disputed. The Centre has rejected allegations that the ethanol policy is responsible for rising sugar prices or reduced vehicle mileage. Industry representatives have also maintained that E20 is safe and can help reduce India’s dependence on imported crude oil.

E20 Becomes a Major Political Issue in Goa

The controversy over E20 petrol is emerging as an important political issue ahead of the Goa Assembly elections.

Kejriwal has stepped up his criticism of the policy during his Goa campaign. AAP is seeking public support against what it describes as the forced rollout of E20 petrol.

The latest promise puts fuel policy, vehicle compatibility and sugar prices at the centre of AAP’s campaign narrative in Goa.
