Revanth Reddy Inspects Mir Alam Tank Development Works in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday conducted a surprise inspection at Mir Alam Tank in Hyderabad. He reviewed the development works underway around the historic water body.
The Chief Minister also inspected the ongoing suspension bridge construction at the site. The project is being taken up under the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL).
During the visit, Revanth Reddy took a close look at the progress of the works. He also inspected the construction site from a hydraulic lift, according to reports.
The inspection comes as the Telangana government steps up efforts to transform Hyderabad’s water bodies and the Musi riverfront. The wider plan focuses on urban development, environmental improvement and better public spaces.
Suspension Bridge Planned Across Mir Alam Tank
The suspension bridge is among the major infrastructure projects planned around Mir Alam Tank. The proposed structure is expected to improve connectivity in the surrounding areas.
According to details reported earlier, the bridge is planned to stretch for about 2.65 km. It is expected to have a width of around 22.2 metres.
The proposed alignment connects National Highway 44 near Mir Alam Tank with Chintalmet Road near Mir Alam Park. Entry and exit ramps are planned near Mir Mahmood Pahadi Road and the King’s Colony-Shastripuram Road area.
The government had earlier directed officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report for a cable bridge across Mir Alam Tank. In February 2025, the Chief Minister had also asked officials to work towards completing the project within 30 months.
Lake Restoration Also Part of the Development Plan
The Mir Alam Tank project is not limited to bridge construction. Authorities are also working on the improvement of the lake and its surroundings.
In July, MRDCL officials reviewed bridge construction and lake-cleaning works at the site. Officials were also asked to examine sewage treatment arrangements to prevent untreated sewage from entering the tank.
Plans included improving sewage conveyance, strengthening treatment capacity and separating stormwater drains from sewage channels. Development of the tank’s two islands was also planned alongside the restoration works.
Mir Alam Tank and Hyderabad’s Urban Transformation
Mir Alam Tank has historical importance in Hyderabad. It was once an important source of drinking water for the city before the development of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar.
The lake is located south of the Musi River. Its development is therefore closely linked with the government’s broader plans for the Musi corridor and southern Hyderabad.
The Telangana government has been pursuing a wider Musi rejuvenation programme. The stated vision includes cleaner waterways, improved public spaces, tourism infrastructure and better connectivity along the riverfront.
The state has also outlined plans involving parks, walking and cycling routes, pedestrian crossings and other urban amenities.
Revanth Reddy’s Focus on Musi Riverfront Development
Revanth Reddy has repeatedly stressed the importance of developing the Musi riverfront as an economic and tourism hub.
In earlier reviews, he directed officials to speed up preparations for the Musi Riverfront Development Project. He also called for cleaning the river before major development works begin.
The Chief Minister has also said that the Musi riverfront should become a driver of economic activity and job creation. Plans have included bridges, commercial spaces, parks and pathways along the river.
MRDCL is the state agency responsible for coordinating the Musi Riverfront Development programme. The corporation describes its mission as revitalising urban landscapes while promoting sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
Why the Mir Alam Tank Project Matters
The development of Mir Alam Tank could have implications beyond the immediate bridge project. Better connectivity may help ease movement between key parts of southern Hyderabad.
The planned lake improvements could also support cleaner surroundings and improved recreational spaces. The combination of transport infrastructure and lake restoration is expected to give the area a significant makeover.
The latest inspection by Revanth Reddy indicates that the government is closely monitoring progress at the site. Further developments are likely as construction and restoration activities continue.
