Chandrababu Naidu Says He Encouraged Coffee, Pepper Cultivation During United Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has recalled his efforts to promote coffee cultivation as a source of income during the united Andhra Pradesh era.
Naidu said he was the one who encouraged people to take up coffee plantations.
He also recalled promoting pepper cultivation alongside coffee plantations.
> “I was the one who told them to grow coffee plantations. When Andhra Pradesh was united, I said coffee plantations could generate income. I also suggested growing pepper trees along with coffee,” Naidu said.
The Chief Minister described the initiative as an example of the Telugu Desam Party’s efforts to create new livelihood opportunities.
Araku Coffee grows into global brand
Naidu’s remarks come amid renewed focus on coffee cultivation in the tribal regions of Andhra Pradesh.
The government has said Araku Coffee, promoted as a major brand around 25 years ago, has now gained global recognition. The state is also encouraging coffee cultivation across an additional one lakh acres.
The Chief Minister has linked coffee and other commercial crops with improving incomes in the Agency areas.
The government is also focusing on crops such as pepper and turmeric in these regions.
Araku Coffee is closely associated with tribal farmers in the Araku Valley. Its cultivation is often integrated with shade trees and other crops, including pepper.
Naidu’s comments highlight the long-term focus on using plantation crops to create sustainable income opportunities for farmers and tribal communities.
