Kadiyam Srihari Demands Repeal of GO 97, Says Polytechnic Students Must Remain Under Technical Education
Hyderabad: BRS MLA Kadiyam Srihari has demanded that the Telangana government withdraw Government Order (GO) No. 97 concerning the restructuring of polytechnic education in the state.
Srihari said polytechnic education should continue under the technical education framework. He also stressed that it should remain aligned with engineering education.
The demand comes amid growing concerns among polytechnic students over the changes proposed under GO 97. Students have raised questions about their academic progression and future opportunities.
Srihari, who previously served as Telangana’s Education Minister, said the government must address the confusion among students.
> “As a former Education Minister, I demand that GO 97 be cancelled and polytechnic education be retained with engineering education.”
He said students should not face uncertainty because of changes in the education system.
According to Srihari, retaining polytechnic students within technical education would provide greater clarity about their academic future.
He urged the Congress government to give students a clear assurance on the issue.
The controversy surrounding GO 97 has intensified in recent weeks. Polytechnic students and student organisations have held protests across Telangana, demanding withdrawal of the order.
A key concern raised by students relates to their existing academic pathways. These include higher education opportunities and lateral entry into engineering courses through ECET.
The Telangana government has also moved to examine concerns surrounding polytechnic education. A panel was formed to consult students, faculty and other stakeholders before further action.
Srihari’s latest demand adds to the growing political pressure on the government to reconsider GO 97 and protect the interests of polytechnic students.
