Hyderabad Ganesh Festival 2026: Telangana Government Reviews Immersion Arrangements, Police Bandobust and Crane Deployment
Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Tuesday held a high-level meeting to review arrangements for the upcoming Ganesh festival and immersion procession in Hyderabad.
The meeting brought together the Ganesh Utsav Committee, representatives of major Ganesh idol committees, including the Khairatabad Ganesh organisers, senior police officers and officials from various government departments.
The meeting was chaired by Telangana Transport, BC Welfare and Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. Senior officials from the police, municipal administration and other departments attended the review.
Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on September 14, while the major idol immersion is scheduled for September 25. Hyderabad is preparing for one of the city’s biggest annual religious processions.
Focus on six-phase security and bandobust plan
During the meeting, detailed attention was given to the security and crowd-management arrangements required for the Ganesh immersion.
The speaker, who has been involved in Ganesh immersion arrangements for the 14th time, shared his experience from previous years.
Of these 14 occasions, he said, 10 were handled while serving in different senior positions in the City Police, including DCP, Additional Commissioner of Police and Commissioner of Police.
Drawing on that experience, he explained the need to plan the immersion bandobust in six distinct phases.
The six-phase approach covers the movement of idols, crowd management, procession routes, immersion points and coordination between the departments involved.
He stressed that every phase requires advance planning and clear responsibility among the agencies on the ground.
Organisers have an important role
The responsibilities of Ganesh festival organisers were also discussed at length.
Organisers were advised to ensure proper arrangements at individual Ganesh mandaps. Safety measures at the pandals are particularly important as large numbers of devotees are expected to visit during the festival.
The need for close coordination between organisers and government officials was highlighted.
Officials also responded to questions raised by representatives of various Ganesh Utsav committees. The organisers sought clarity on several practical issues concerning processions, immersion arrangements and government support.
Police and municipal coordination to be strengthened
A major point raised during the discussion was the need for seamless coordination between the police and municipal authorities.
The immersion procession involves several departments working at the same time. Any delay or lack of coordination can affect traffic movement, crowd management and the overall procession.
Recent GHMC preparations have also focused on strengthening coordination among the police, civic authorities and other agencies through control rooms.
GHMC officials have been reviewing road repairs, barricading, lighting, sanitation, parking, cranes and emergency services ahead of the festival.
Cranes and immersion points under review
The installation and positioning of cranes at immersion points was another key issue discussed during the meeting.
The availability of suitable cranes is crucial for handling large idols safely and efficiently. GHMC and other civic bodies are already making arrangements for cranes at several lakes and immersion points across Hyderabad.
Recent civic preparations include the deployment of cranes, boats, swimmers, lifesaving equipment, ambulances and emergency teams.
The authorities are also upgrading immersion platforms at Hussain Sagar. Two platforms on NTR Marg are being strengthened to help complete the major immersion process in a single day.
Khairatabad Ganesh remains a major focus
The Khairatabad Ganesh immersion is expected to remain one of the major highlights of the city’s Ganesh festivities.
The iconic idol attracts large crowds and requires special planning because of its size and the scale of the procession.
The Khairatabad Ganesh committee has announced that the 2026 celebrations will run from September 14 to September 25. The idol is traditionally immersed in Hussain Sagar with the assistance of large cranes.
Arrangements along the Khairatabad-NTR Garden-Tank Bund stretch are also being planned, including barricading, watch towers, temporary structures and other facilities for the immersion procession.
Officials explain preparations to festival committees
Representatives of different government departments briefed the organisers about their respective preparations.
The discussions covered civic infrastructure, sanitation, roads, traffic management, security, immersion facilities and emergency response.
Festival committee representatives used the meeting to raise their concerns and seek clarification from officials.
The government officials responded to the queries and explained the arrangements being put in place.
Hyderabad preparing for a large-scale immersion
Ganesh immersion is one of Hyderabad’s largest annual public gatherings, with thousands of idols moving through different parts of the city before reaching designated immersion points.
The scale of the event makes advance coordination essential.
Previous experience has shown that traffic diversions, crowd movement, emergency response and timely idol immersion need to work together.
The Telangana government and civic authorities are therefore preparing a coordinated plan involving the police, municipal bodies, emergency services and Ganesh festival committees.
With the festival approaching, officials are expected to continue reviewing arrangements in the coming days.
The objective remains clear: ensure that the Ganesh celebrations and immersion procession pass off peacefully, safely and with minimal inconvenience to the public.
