CM Revanth Reddy Meets Union Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, Discusses Telangana Airport Projects
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu in New Delhi.
The meeting focused on the development of key airport projects in Telangana.
The proposed Mamunur Airport in Warangal and Adilabad Airport were among the major issues discussed.
The Chief Minister urged the Centre to speed up work on both projects. He also sought modern facilities and international-level infrastructure at the airports.
Focus on Mamunur Airport development
Revanth Reddy stressed the strategic importance of Mamunur Airport for Warangal and surrounding districts.
He said the airport could strengthen air connectivity across North Telangana. Warangal is also emerging as an important industrial and textile hub.
The Chief Minister requested facilities for air cargo, MRO and aircraft hangars at Mamunur.
He also sought designs that reflect Warangal’s rich Kakatiya heritage and cultural identity.
The Telangana government has already completed the required land acquisition for the project. Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to begin the next phase of work without delay.
June 2, 2028 target for airport projects
A key point discussed during the meeting was the proposed completion timeline.
Revanth Reddy said efforts were being made to complete the Warangal and Adilabad airport projects by June 2, 2028.
The date holds significance as Telangana observes its formation day on June 2.
The target is aimed at accelerating work and improving regional air connectivity in the state.
Adilabad Airport also discussed
The Chief Minister also raised the proposed Adilabad Airport with the Union Minister.
He sought the development of a civil airport alongside the proposed defence airport.
Revanth Reddy assured the Centre that the state government would support the required land arrangements.
He also proposed MRO, air cargo and hangar facilities at Adilabad Airport.
Flight Training Organisations were also proposed at both Mamunur and Adilabad airports.
Other airport proposals in Telangana
The discussions were not limited to Mamunur and Adilabad.
Earlier discussions between the Telangana government and the Centre also covered proposed airports at other locations.
These included Kothagudem and Anthargam, where different approvals and feasibility-related steps are required.
For Kothagudem, the state has identified a site near Palwancha. The Chief Minister sought an Obstacle Limitation Surface survey and a feasibility study.
For Anthargam, he requested quicker approvals after an alternative site was identified.
Centre appreciates Telangana’s land acquisition efforts
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu appreciated the Telangana government’s efforts on land acquisition for the Warangal airport.
The Centre has indicated support for moving the project forward.
An earlier meeting also saw the Union Minister assure that Airports Authority of India officials would visit Mamunur. The visit was intended to support the technical process for starting the project.
Boost for Telangana’s regional connectivity
The proposed airports are expected to improve air connectivity beyond Hyderabad.
Mamunur could serve passengers from Warangal and several neighbouring regions.
Adilabad Airport could similarly improve connectivity for northern Telangana.
The projects could also support tourism, industry, cargo movement and employment in the respective regions.
For Telangana, the airport push comes as the state seeks stronger infrastructure links to support future economic growth.
