The Sikkim Mahananda Express had just departed from Ara Junction when the derailment occurred. Railway teams reached the spot and began restoration work.

The train later resumed its journey from Ara Junction at around 7:23 am, according to railway officials.

There are also differing early reports on the number of coaches involved. Some reports described two bogies, while other agency reports said three coaches, including the engine, SLR and H-1 coach, were affected.

The train is identified as 15483 Alipurduar Junction–Delhi Sikkim Mahananda Express. The incident occurred on the up line near Ara railway station.
