Akbaruddin Owaisi Demands Inquiry Into Alleged Manhandling of BRS Women MLAs in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, September 8: AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on Tuesday strongly condemned the alleged manhandling of BRS women legislators during a protest outside the Telangana Assembly in Hyderabad.
The incident reportedly involved former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and other BRS women MLAs.
Speaking in the Telangana Legislative Assembly, Owaisi said the dignity of every woman must be respected. He expressed serious concern over allegations that a woman legislator was pulled by her hair.
He also referred to allegations that another woman MLA’s saree was pulled and stepped on during the confrontation.
“Members of the House have their own dignity and status,” Owaisi said while raising the issue in the Assembly.
He urged Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to order a comprehensive inquiry into the incident. Owaisi also demanded strict action against police personnel found responsible for any misconduct.
‘Women Legislators Are Like My Sisters’: Akbaruddin Owaisi
The AIMIM MLA said women legislators deserved respect regardless of political differences. He described the women members of the House as being like his own sisters.
Owaisi stressed that restraint must be exercised while dealing with elected representatives. He said the dignity of legislators should not be compromised under any circumstances.
The controversy began after BRS legislators attempted to enter the Telangana Assembly wearing black T-shirts with protest slogans. Police stopped them at the entrance, leading to a confrontation between security personnel and the legislators.
BRS leaders alleged that several women legislators were manhandled during the incident.
Former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy alleged that police personnel pulled her hair. BRS MLA Sunitha Laxma Reddy also alleged that her saree was pulled during the confrontation.
The allegations triggered strong political reactions across Telangana.
Telangana High Court Seeks Inquiry Into Police Action
The issue has also reached the Telangana High Court, which took serious note of allegations regarding police conduct.
The court directed the Telangana DGP to conduct an inquiry into the alleged incident. It also sought action against police personnel found responsible for misconduct.
The High Court also made it clear that elected legislators have the right to enter the Assembly.
Akbaruddin Owaisi’s remarks added another significant voice to the growing demand for accountability. His intervention highlighted concerns over the treatment of women elected representatives.
The incident has continued to trigger heated political debate in Telangana. BRS leaders have accused the government and police of high-handedness, while the matter remains under official and legal scrutiny.
