HYDRAA Commissioner Clarifies Demolition Policy: Assures Hyderabad Residents Their Homes Will Not Be Affected

*Hyderabad, September 7, 2024* — The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Commissioner has assured residents of Hyderabad that no occupied residential homes will be demolished, even if they are built within Full Tank Level (FTL) or buffer zones of lakes. The Commissioner emphasized that dwellings currently occupied by people will remain intact.However, the Commissioner urged the public to avoid purchasing houses, flats, or land that fall within FTL or buffer zones, as new constructions in these areas are subject to demolition. Residents are encouraged to verify the status of properties via the HMDA lakes website or consult with authorities if they have any doubts regarding FTL or buffer zones.Recent demolitions were carried out on under-construction structures in the **Sunnam Cheruvu** and **Mallampet Cheruvu** areas of **Dundigal** and **Ameenpur**, which lacked proper building permissions and were located within FTL and buffer zones. These included:- Seven villas in Mallampet Cheruvu, built by **Vijay Lakshmi**, a local builder with numerous criminal cases, were demolished as they were still under construction and had no occupants.- Structures in Ameenpur, including compound walls, rooms, and sheds illegally grabbed by **Katasani Ram Bhopal Reddy**, former MLA from Panyam, Andhra Pradesh, were also taken down.- Commercial sheds and a hotel in **Sunnam Cheruvu**, used for business purposes, were demolished as they fell within the FTL zone.Authorities confirmed that criminal cases have been filed against individuals involved in the illegal construction activities, including **Vijay Lakshmi** and former MLA **Katasani Ram Bhopal Reddy**.The Commissioner reiterated that any future illegal construction in FTL or buffer zones would face strict action, including demolition, but assured the public that no residential houses already occupied will be affected.
