Telangana Congress Stages Major Dharna in Delhi Over BC Reservation Bill Approval

New Delhi, August 7:

The Telangana Congress has launched a high-voltage protest at *Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, demanding immediate approval for the *BC Reservation Bills passed by the state government. The agitation is aimed at putting pressure on the Centre to include the bills in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution.

The protest, titled a “Maha Dharna”, started at *10:30 AM, with *AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge inaugurating the event. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to join during the closing session in the evening.

Congress Pushes for Central Approval of 42% BC Reservation Bills

The Congress party is intensifying its efforts to get the 42% BC reservation bills approved at the national level. These bills, already passed by the *Telangana state government, are pending **central clearance. Congress argues that this approval is essential for implementing *political reservations for BCs in local body elections.

According to reports, 12 major BC organizations are backing the protest. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who previously participated in a similar protest on April 2, is now leading this fresh round of agitation, seeking swift action from the Centre.

Revanth Reddy Seeks President’s Appointment Amid Protest

As part of the action plan, CM Revanth Reddy has sought an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu to personally submit a request for bill approval. If the appointment isn’t granted, Congress leaders are planning to organize a march to Rashtrapati Bhavan.

*Mahesh Kumar Goud, along with state ministers, has inspected the protest site. *MP Mallu Ravi stated that if Parliament doesn’t act during the ongoing session, they would oppose Union ministers’ visits to the state.

Congress Wants BC Quota Issue to Be National Talking Point

Congress has succeeded in making BC reservation a central political issue. Party leaders highlight Rahul Gandhi’s promise made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra—to conduct caste census and provide reservations proportionate to population.

The party believes the issue has resonated deeply, especially after Telangana’s caste census exercise. Congress is now determined to ensure other parties also engage on this matter nationally.

Mass Support from INDIA Bloc Expected at Dharna

Several allies from the INDIA alliance are expected to participate in solidarity. The protest has gained attention for being both symbolic and strategic ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Jajula Srinivas Goud, National President of the BC Welfare Association, has declared full support for the Congress-led protest, calling the BC reservation demand “long overdue and socially just.”
