**Amaravati, 24 September 2024** – The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has issued significant directives to former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Chairman YV Subbareddy, asking the state government to file a counter in response to his petition challenging a vigilance inquiry. The petition was filed by Subbareddy to contest the ongoing Vigilance and Enforcement probe into allegations of misappropriation of funds and decisions made during his tenure as the TTD board chairman.During the hearing on Monday, the court directed the government to provide Subbareddy with all legally permissible documents related to the TTD vigilance investigation within a week. This was to enable Subbareddy to explain the letters sent by officials regarding the probe. The court further instructed Subbareddy to submit his explanation to the vigilance authorities within three weeks of receiving the documents.Subbareddy’s counsel informed the court that the Vigilance and Enforcement SP had issued seven notices requesting explanations for several decisions made during his chairmanship. However, despite requests, the necessary files and documents had not been provided to Subbareddy, who is no longer serving as the TTD chairman. His legal team argued that there was no substantial evidence supporting the allegations against him.On behalf of the government, the Advocate General argued that the Vigilance and Enforcement department is conducting a routine investigation and would submit its report to the relevant authorities upon completion. After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge stated that Subbareddy should provide whatever information he is aware of to the vigilance officials. The court noted that further clarification on the authority of the state’s vigilance officers is essential and adjourned the case to November 4, pending the government’s counter. The court’s directives provide a temporary reprieve for Subbareddy, but the case continues to attract attention due to the sensitive nature of the allegations related to the administration of one of India’s most prominent religious institutions.
