Bengaluru, September 2, 2025 –
In a tragic incident, a 41-year-old software engineer working with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) lost his life after being bitten by a snake that had crawled into his shoe.
How the Incident Happened
The victim, identified as *Prakash, had returned home from work late at night and went to sleep in his room. Unaware that a *highly venomous Russell’s viper hatchling (locally called Raktapinjaram Pamu) had slipped into his shoe, he wore it and was bitten.
His family members noticed something unusual nearly an hour later. When they entered his room, they found Prakash lying unconscious with foam in his mouth. Despite immediate efforts to rush him to the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
Medical Background Made the Bite Deadlier
According to family sources, Prakash had met with a *road accident in 2016, which left one of his legs partially numb. Because of this condition, he *did not feel the snakebite pain and failed to recognize the danger in time. Medical experts say this delay in seeking treatment likely cost him his life, as Russell’s viper venom can be fatal within hours if untreated.
Snake Safety in Urban Homes
Snake experts in Bengaluru highlighted that with the city’s rapid urbanization, human-snake encounters have become increasingly common. They advise residents to:
- Always check shoes, cupboards, and dark corners before use.
- Keep surroundings clean to avoid attracting rodents, which in turn bring snakes.
- Seek medical help immediately in case of any suspected snakebite, even if no pain is felt.
Shock Among Colleagues and Community
Prakash’s sudden death has shocked his friends, colleagues, and neighbors. A dedicated IT professional, he was known for his calm nature and supportive behavior. His colleagues at TCS expressed deep grief and remembered him as a hardworking team player.
