The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved a major defense acquisition proposal for the procurement of 240 aero-engines for the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Su-30 MKI aircraft. The engines will be procured under the Buy (Indian) category from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at a cost exceeding Rs 26,000 crore, inclusive of all taxes and duties. The Ministry of Defence has announced that the delivery of these engines will begin after one year, with the entire order set to be completed over a span of eight years. The engines will feature more than 54% indigenous content, boosted by the indigenization of key components. Manufacturing of the engines will take place at HAL’s Koraput division. This decision is expected to enhance the operational capabilities of the IAF’s Su-30 MKI fleet, which plays a critical role in India’s air defense and strike missions.
